"I was really scared of doing Maths at school. I felt stupid and the teacher was always busy and cross. My mum signed me up with Mrs Swinton and it made me feel better about my Maths. I was predicted a Level 3 in my SATs, but Mrs Swinton helped me get better. My teacher was shocked when I got a Level 4 -- and since then I've got even better. I even quite like Maths now."

"The village school where my son started had Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 in the same class. Jacob seemed to spend a lot of time playing with the classroom assistant. His learning didn't seem structured -- I know they're supposed to learn through play, but really! Mrs Swinton taught Jacob things like how to sound out his words and made sure he was ready and willing to learn properly. Now he can read simple books, which none of his friends can do."

"Came to Mrs Swinton because we wanted David to be fully prepared for his entrance exam. He got the scholarship. Really pleased."
--David's dad (David is 11)

"Ryan's a right bundle of energy. Even though he's on the autistic spectrum, we wanted to send him to the school across the road. Ryan's teacher said that he's got lots of friends, but he's not that interested in learning. I had to do something, so I took him to Mrs Swinton. Ryan has obsessions. He really gets into things and refuses to think about anything else. Last year it was Thomas the Tank Engine. Mrs Swinton was really patient and used Thomas and trains to get Ryan to order his numbers, add up and take away and even divide. She taught him routine and he knows how to behave in class now."
--Ryan's dad (Ryan is 6)

"Sarah's really good at playing the flute. But the test place said she couldn't take her Grade 6 flute exam without being able to read music at Grade 5 level. Mrs Swinton gave her a crash course in music theory. She passed her Grade 5 music theory with a distinction and she got a Merit in Grade 6 flute."
--Sarah's mum (Sarah is 14)

"I'd been concerned about Kyle for a few years, but every year at Parents' Evening, they told me there was nothing to worry about. But his older brothers never had this much trouble with reading and writing. I had to have him tested privately -- the school wouldn't do it. As I suspected, he's dyslexic. The educational psychologist told me to get a tutor. The results have been fantastic!! He's made up his reading age and he actually reads books for fun now. And yesterday he came home with a story -- he never would have done that before."
--Kyle's mum (Kyle is 9)
